Understanding ‘Blue-collar’ jobs

Let us start by understanding what actually ‘blue collar’ jobs are. Basically, blue collar jobs fall under those professions that involves physical labour or we can simply define them as the jobs that are performed physically. Blue-collar workers are not as educated as white-collar professionals and do not posses any kind of diploma or educational qualification.

Factors affecting Blue-collar jobs

In the present times, technology has taken over the world and everyone is benefiting with it but that’s only the positive aspect of it, on the other hand, technology cannot meet everybody’s need, especially in India.

India is a highly populated country, due to which there has been a gradual decrease in the employment rate over the years, and by looking at the crucial aspects, like population, literacy rate, or employment rate, it can be easily concluded that blue-collar job category is very important for our country to help in improving the condition. In the given scenario, blue collar jobs here can act as a game changing factor for the unskilled or the uneducated population.

Importance of Blue-collar jobs

Let us take an example of a ‘plumber’ to understand it better. A plumber performs many tasks that affect our daily routine and lives like fixing washbasin, bathroom sinks, flush, toilets etc. which a white collar person might not be skilled enough to perform or maybe not too comfortable to do considering the mindset of the society. Likewise, there are many other tasks, like picking up garbage from homes or streets, cleaning sever, housekeeping maid or servant etc that fall under the same category.

India has been increasingly growing desperate for bringing in an organized unit for the blue collar employees in the industries. With more people taking up these professions, the need for a common unit for the workers has gone up. Needless to say, the organized unit for the blue collar workers has its own benefits, which gets reflected in the productivity of the work done by them. As such, the blue collar workers can be segregated into different parts of the industries depending upon their types of manual labor. This is the present scenario in every industry in the country.

With blue collar employees being considered on par with the white collar employees, it is natural for the industries to try to bring in an organization in the blue collar workers to improve their productivity and to improve their working standards. Needless to say, much effort has been put in trying to develop a system that helps to organize the workers under a common unit. The benefits that this can bring to the development of the country are immense and happen to be the reason why India has been desperately trying to make this move in the blue collar sector.

Need for the Organization:
One might wonder as to how the organized sector can help out the workers and the industries as a whole. This is a natural feeling among the people, for only in the recent times have the blue collar jobs being considered as a viable profession among many. As such, there are various aspects that can be improved with the help of introducing organized blue-collar employees. These include:

-Relationship between Employer and Co-workers
In industry, the manager must be able to have a smooth relationship with the people in the blue collar sector. An organized system will ensure that the head is able to have a direct communication with every blue-collar employee in the industry. This in turn will serve as a motivation to perform better in their work.

-Recognition
Every blue collar worker in an organized system will have the right platform to showcase their potential. Rather than depending on a single person to do the job, they would be motivated to take up the tasks and perform the duties. The organized system will give way for improvement of the workers in their field.

-Job Security
The blue collar workers who are organized in their field do not have to worry about losing their jobs at the earliest. Job security is provided to the people in these units. The skilled labor gets retained back in the industry, even if the others get cut down for their positions. Organized units have proven to provide a collective good for their workers, as they tend to take up work as an entire unit.

-Wages for the Labor
Once an organized blue-collar system sets in, you can expect a change in the wages paid to the labors. Uniform wages can be paid to the labors as a whole and this way they are able to get to the same position as that of the white collar employees.

-Working Conditions
If the blue collar workers get organized under the same unit, they would be able to ensure an improved working condition for the entire unit. The working standard of the employee gets improved this way.
