A woman who needs no introduction.
The स्त्री, who is the ¨Roshni¨ in your house.
Your lady, who makes your house a home.
An all-rounder who brings an income to your home whilst looking after your needs.
The heart of the house, who is the first to wake up and the last to sleep, and while she’s awake, she is one full battery-charged human.
The one who has many names such as Mother, Wife, Sister, Daughter, Daughter-in-law, Grandmother, etc…
She is a woman.
Importance of a woman
Imagine your life without one… enough said.
Women in the blue-collar industry today
Women these days have started to be independent. They are now empowered to work and earn while also being the ones to look after the house, family, and kids. Their empowerment levels are so high that there is no stopping them now.
The world gives many speeches about gender equality. It is very easy to speak, but in our current world, there are many instances where women get looked upon, even while knowing that they are the giver of life.
There are many countries even today where a woman comes secondary. It gives me great pleasure that there are some countries that have taken gender equality very well and have given equal rights. Yet, it will take a much longer time until the whole world ends up doing this.
If we take India as an example, you can see how many women are working as blue-collar employees.
Some examples of such employees would be housemaids, care-takers, nannies, cooks, road sweepers, garbage collectors, hospital staff and the list goes on.
What is the role of a woman in society today?

Many would feel that a woman should limit to living inside her house and handling her housework. Once girls grow to a marrying age, they get trained on how to be a good housewife and not how to be an independent woman.
The role of a woman in life is to be who she wishes to be. She can be a managing director of a company, or she can be a bus conductor of the government bus depot. She has the right to choose, and she should not get discriminated against.
Koi kaam chota ya bada nai hota. Kaam kaam hotha hai chahe wo purush kare ya mahila. In India, we now get to see many roles of a woman. Ladies have taken jobs such as food delivery, rickshaw driver, security guard, and more. Why do they do these? They can just stay at home and look after the family. But no.
Ladies with educational qualifications can do different white-collar jobs because they would like to be independent. But what about these ladies in the blue-collar industry? They do these jobs due to helplessness.
Despite working, they still come home and transform into housewives. When they come home with a smile or with a sulk, they have no option, they have to perform their duty in the house.
They want to be self-dependent. For ages, men have taken the lead in earning the income for the house, now the ladies feel that they want to contribute as well. The cost of living has risen and their contribution is equally important for the well-being of the entire family.
But, this is happening widely in cities alone or in places where the literacy level is high or good enough so that a woman can qualify to work.
What about the places where the literacy level is low?
The Internet Saathi Initiative
In 2015, Google for India started the Internet Saathi Initiative where many women in rural areas got the chance to educate themselves and get familiar with the digital world. During this time, the ladies in the rural villages were not digital literate. When the research ended, they found out only 10% of the internet users in the village were women.
This had to change and thus Google for India started this initiative where now, six years later, the % has increased to 40% and more than 30,000,000 rural women are now educated on how the digital world works.
You can get more information on this here.
As you can see, now there are no boundaries for women. They will keep soaring high.
Issues faced by women
1. In many cities of India, there is a tendency that elders in the household may not allow the women to work outside. They would make sure that the women stay at home and only perform duties as a housewife.
2. Many places, women get looked down upon. Men feel that women cannot handle the task given and question their fragility.
3. Even if a man and a woman hold similar educational qualifications, there are many instances where a man gets more priority than a woman.
4. As women end up working, the personal attention that they should give to their kids gets neglected. This affects the upbringing of kids and as a result, the job gets done by caretakers. It is highly recommended that at least one parent should take care of their child before it gets out of hand.
The Covid-19 hit on Women
India Today informs us below that:
Due to COVID-19, ladies have found it difficult to work from home and to look after families. The normal routine where kids go to school and husbands go to work is no more the new norm. Thus the whole pattern of a women’s day has completely changed.
Now since there is a shortage of housemaids, housewives now have to manage more than normal. As the kids do not go to school and study only via online classes, mothers have to give more attention to their children’s education.
As a result, many mothers have ended up losing their jobs because of added house responsibilities. This creates a shortage of finance that affects the household’s monthly expenses.
One good thing that has helped women out is for them to get to know what they are good at. Many ladies have turned entrepreneurs where they provide services that they excel in.

Despite all the above, many of our ladies are still going strong.
You may be wondering that all this praise is for women, what about the men? Yes, men too deserve their own level of praise for what they do; yet, men have been doing this for eons of years, whereas for the women, it’s just the beginning.
Michelle Obama once quoted ¨There’s power in allowing yourself to be known and heard, in owning your unique story, in using your authentic voice.¨ Why is the 8th of March celebrated as International Women’s Day? Is that the only day women should get respect?
No
It is Women’s Day every day. A salute to you for all that you do to keep your family, work, and life intact. May you always have the strength to do what you love and setting an example for future generations to come.
You are the power and you are the light.
Keep shining bright Oh स्त्री!
