Imagine having to do a task that involves fuel, coal, oil, or even handling the sewers. I can guarantee you that if you start your day with one of these jobs wearing a white shirt, you will not return in the same condition. Yet, if you had worn a darker colour, you can hide most of the stains. That is how the term blue-collar came into existence.

These workers have been working since the 1920s and they still do. Yet there are certain challenges we will see here where employers face when recruiting blue-collar workers.[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]

Challenges faced by employers in employing blue-collar workers

· Change in the literacy level of people. The current running generations (Y and Z) prefer to go more into the white-collar jobs list. As they get a better education, their preference is to work in offices and companies which fall into the white-collar job examples such as Managers, CEOs, and Executives.

· Increase in blue-collar workers migrating abroad. As students pass out of secondary education, many dream to work abroad out of India as they feel they could earn better and prosper in their interested field of the blue-collar job description. For example, a building construction worker will earn more cash in a developed country than in India. This reduces supply in their own country and makes it a challenge for employers to recruit.

· Entry-level educational requirements for blue-collar workers have increased, which makes potential workers to charge a higher wage from the employers. This creates a hassle for the employers, as they have their respective budgets to meet and also get blue-collar workers that will meet their job role.

· Long term serving blue-collar workers who do not retire till their retirement age. This has been an issue that needs fixing. There are many workers who have spent almost all their life in one job. They would not wish to get themselves fired. Also, employers would have to think twice before firing as they have to give respect to the contribution for the years given. Thus, employers cannot remove them and hire new staff, which can increase the overall cost of the company.

· Staff having the inflexibility to attend to personal problems as they work in fixed hours. This is a challenge equal to blue-collar workers and employers. As the workers have to work in fixed schedules, they cannot attend to personal problems if they arise, and it leads them to keep quitting jobs. This creates the process of going through the employment recruitment cycle all over again.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_single_image image=”529″ img_size=”800*400″][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]

How can we help them?

With all the challenges above, we need to provide solutions that can bridge the gap of unemployment. We also need to get the employers the right set of blue-collar workers to do the job.

Use Job portals – RozgarKhoj.com can help in getting the right man for the right job. It has its own job portal where employers can search for the right candidate for his/her company. Besides that, any employee can search for the list of employers available that would match his/her need.

Word of mouth – This is a very effective method to get staff. If Company A has 100 blue-collar workers working with them, they would know workers in other companies who would like a change in job/company. Through word of mouth, this can ease to allow people to transfer between jobs.

Improve the recruiting process – During the selection, make the job descriptions clear along with the terms and conditions. Once done, try reaching out to locations where blue-collar workers are high in supply and get the right ones for the job.

Advertise more! With and without media – Employers can reach out to educational institutions where outgoing students can give a chance to experience this type of work if they feel lost or not knowing how to progress further in their path of education.

Also, when they do advertising, it should show that being a blue-collar worker is not a bad thing. Make potential workers feel they should be proud if they join the blue-collar workforce.

We can give current employees the opportunity to up skill their talents. This can help in employees diversifying their knowledge and being multi-talented.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_single_image image=”531″ img_size=”300*200″][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]

How do we go on from here?

We need to understand that blue-collar workers do the tasks that many would think twice to perform. They deserve respect as much as a white-collar worker would. Why? Because first, they are humans who have emotions and feelings.Second, they also need a job to feed their families.

We can understand that these workers may not have the intelligence of a white-collar worker, however without them, we are nobody.

We can understand that these workers may not have the intelligence of a white-collar worker, however without them, we are nobody.

Imagine, you have a water leak in your house, and you need a solution, a manager or executive will not come to your aid but a plumber will. We need to treat them like anyone else with no
discrimination.

What do you think? How should employers treat them? Should we treat them differently? Tell me in the comments below.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
