[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]On a regular day in October 2020, when we were within the clutches of the Coronavirus:
This happened.
My friend’s wedding was coming up. I had to get myself a dress, but I did not have time to go and get one. I really wanted to get the best. Yet, the only option that I had was to book it online. So I went online, checked the options, checked the return policy in case it does not fit, and finally, I booked my dress. So how do you think the dress would come to me? Well, all thanks to the delivery staff of the store.
The next day I got my dress. Fitted perfectly, so no exchange was required.
When the delivery came, I saw the appearance of the guy. I instantly felt sorry for him. He seemed to be a person who had done many orders for the day. He was tired, exhausted, and really wanted to go home soon. However, he did not behave like he was in a hurry. He made sure that I was happy with the delivery and that I received it on the day that I had requested.
What do you get from the story above? Imagine what this man had been going through, but he still kept going on with his customer service. These are the blue-collar gems that should get the most appreciation from us. He doesn’t want your money. He is getting his own salary.
Delivery people have always been in demand. They are the link between customers and businesses. They assist companies so that the latter does not waste time to do the deliveries themselves. That means they have a value, isn´t it? Yes, they most certainly do.
Types of delivery workers
You name the type, and they are at your doorstep.
Food delivery person – Most important one isn´t it? I know that I would love a place that will be able to provide their food for delivery near me
Courier service delivery – They are the link between you and your most awaited parcels from loved ones.
Consignment delivery – Mainly used by companies for transportation of goods and shipments.
Floral delivery – Ever sent flowers to your loved ones? These guys make it happen!
Milk (dudh-wala) delivery (In Indian context) – Always delivered to you during the very early hours of the day.
Newspaper delivery – The bicycle rider who flings the newspaper over your gate with the perfect aim.
Mailman – Getting your most awaited mail.
Pharmacies do medicine delivery as well.
As you can see above, these days, living without these facilities can be a challenge. Thus, why not give these people some recognition too?
Increase in demand because of Covid-19
[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text][/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_single_image image=”692″ img_size=”” alignment=”center”][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Since March 2020, India went into lockdown, and slowly after a few months, things started to get back to normal. Yet, the fear still existed for many.
Residents preferred to rather stay at home than take the risk to catch the virus from outside.
Many households requested their respective domestic help to avoid coming home to do their chores. Households got together as a team to do the chores themselves.
However, the need for deliveries did not fall. In fact, it increased.
Types of items that have increased in demand because of Covid-19
Covid-19 made us so dependent on ordering things through the tip of our fingers, that we have ordered anything and everything online. If you ask the people you will get replies as ¨It comes to our doorstep, so why not? ¨, ¨It’s cheaper online¨, ¨Can be exchanged, so it’s easier¨ or even ¨Why bother to carry the items, someone will do the delivery work¨. This ´someone´ is the person to whom we have given so much importance today, however, we don´t realize his/her value.
What has increased in demand during Covid than it was before?
Clothing – Because of Covid safety measures, clothing stores would not allow fit-on, and also people would rather try at home than try something that someone else has tried before.
Food – Indians love restaurant food with all the tadka. Zomato and Swiggy announced here that they are witnessing an increase in their deliveries during the lockdown months.
Groceries – Not only in India, but worldwide shop keepers voluntarily did home delivery services to earn their daily income. The BigBasket mentions a whopping 87% increase in their orders compared to their order level before Covid.
Other daily essentials – Deliveries were done for basic amenities to the public as well.
Books – As many people were out of jobs, or had little to do at home, started purchasing books to pass time.
Increase in demand worldwide
Not only in India, but the entire world saw an increase in e-commerce where everyone used their smartphones to order whatever they wanted online.
For example, Uber Eats highlights here, that during the year 2020, they have seen a 152% increase in revenue compared to the previous years.
Another example of grocery deliveries on Statista, we can see there has been a five-fold increase between August 2019 and November 2020 in the United States.
Pay of a delivery worker
Our delivery workers do so much for us. How much do they earn?
You can check the average salary charges here and calculate the monthly rate. When you calculate the average monthly pay, you can see how much they earn.
Try understanding how much effort they have to go through to earn their living. As many say ¨Life is not easy¨, they are some people who will understand that best.
Why?
They have to go in the scorching sun and even in rains to complete their daily and monthly targets. Sometimes they get 5-10 minutes late to deliver and they get scolded by their customers. Yet, they will only apologize as they have to keep their job intact. There are times they take the option of cash on delivery as well, where they take the risk of taking responsibility for the cash. They do a lot, but they don´t show it.
It is our duty to care for them. When they visit us to give our orders, the least we can do is offer them water, or allow them to take a 5-minute rest (keeping Covid precautions in mind). If they feel hungry, we can offer them food. These small things motivate them more to give better customer service to other clients in the future.
